The Pop Shoppe

This is the Pop Shoppe's History.

OUR HISTORY

1969
The Pop Shoppe is born.

Two business-types from London, Ontario have a good idea; start making pop and sell it out of their own stores, called "The Pop Shoppe". This way they lose any middlemen and can sell it for a great price.

Wait, it gets better.

The returnable glass bottles ('stubbies') come in a red plastic case of 24. But, unlike the competition, you get to mix and match. Some of the original flavours were: Lime Ricky, Black Cherry, Sparkle Up and Festival Dry.

1972
The Pop Shoppe is a hit, and growing fast. By now they've opened 14 outlets in Ontario, and can't keep the Pop in stock. So they get help by selling to a big Toronto venture company. The future looks bright. And tasty.

1975
The Pop Shoppe keeps on growing. They now have stores in 11 US cities.

They also get a new slogan: "You'll find our plants all over the country… never our Bottles". They're even saving the planet. Amazing.

1976
Eddie Shack joins The Pop Shoppe! (For those of you who aren't hockey buffs, Eddie Shack is a hockey legend. He played on the Toronto Maple Leafs for six seasons with someone else you might have heard of... Tim Horton).

1977
Sales of The Pop Shoppe hit 1 million bottles per day.

Captain Pop Shoppe (a cartoon Super Hero) and hockey star Henri Richard join The Pop Shoppe's team.

1978
The owner of the Edmonton Oilers, Peter Pocklington tries to buy The Pop Shoppe. No dice. The Pop Shoppe rolls on, but sales in the US are slowing down.

1983
After a few years of slow sales, The Pop Shoppe shares stop being traded on February 3rd. It's a sad day. Although head office is no longer, some Pop Shoppes stay around, but close over the next few years.

2002
An entrepreneur named Brian Alger resurrects The Pop Shoppe. Brian had grown up on The Pop Shoppe and was very keen on bringing it back, and getting into mainstream stores. Work began on formulating the same great tasting pop that the brand was known for.

2004
The re-launch begins in the summer, launching as a premium soda brand with four initial Pop Shoppe classics and made available through retail stores and many food service operations.

2005
Three more Pop Shoppe classics are added to the line-up. Marketing efforts are underway to let consumers know The Pop Shoppe is back. Watch for an original 1978 VW Van for events throughout the summer. With everything seventies being in again and the great taste of Pop Shoppe, it’s a perfect time for a revival.
